TUFTY-TOO

Tufty-Time starts by re-visiting the past and picking up the theme of modularity from the 1970s, to then arrive at an informal and versatile system with a young attitude, that can be mounted freely in many different configurations. Its distinctive mark brings another type with it, which evolved in 2011 with “Tufty-Too”: a different interpretation of softness and composition freedom.

TUFTY-TIME LEATHER

It was 2005 and the designer said: “I wanted to revisit capitonnè and Chesterfield types of sofas, while paying special attention to the new interpretations made in the 1960s and ‘70s, which I have great regard for.”Tufty–Time has achieved its goal by contaminating conventional sofa types with a free and casual lifestyle that is mirrored by highly versatile layouts. This modular system starts with an ottoman as the basic piece, which is then accompanied by central, corner and terminal elements with a low or high armrest. The elements are used to invent traditional sofas, sofas with chaise longue, corner sofas and island elements that provide a 360° seating solution. Cosy in its more accentuated depth, Tufty–Time becomes a meeting place, a welcoming refuge where people can just relax.Hence the creation of one of the Company's most successful items. It is not merely inspired by the past but, instead, offers an excellent solution for themes such as modular elements, comfort and removable covers, which have been solved with an innovative spirit.

DIESIS 40

Diesis is not only a B&B Italia classic, but an absolute icon of contemporary design. 2019 marks the 40th anniversary of its first appearance - an important landmark which has been celebrated with some design and structural updates. These updates return to the original concept while simultaneously advancing the design towards the future. The iconic backrest retains its essential and technical integrity based around the structural steel core, composed of metal springs which give strength and flexibility. The thick leather covered base and backrest are just like they were 40 years ago, but now have a distinctive Saffiano texture. The supporting frame has a timeless elegance, which underlines Diesis’ harmony with the vision of the great masters of Modernism. The cushions boast a new leather cover (available exclusively for Diesis 40) that accentuates the product’s strength and vigour. This is softened by new and more comfortable upholstery. Reinforced seams and other techniques borrowed from saddlery draw attention to the authentic craftsmanship. Lovers of technical details will appreciate the die-cast lenticular elements of the polished brushed aluminium frame, and the seat structure which is further reduced by using two leather-covered coupled sheets. There are many further details to discover in Diesis 40. It is a great classic ready to face the next decades of its life.

HUSK-SOFA

Warm and comfortable, Husk is the perfect example of how to reverse the construction process of a sofa. Its structure in fact is created by the softer, flexible parts. Husk is available in two sizes. They both have a deep seat, although the shorter version combines the seat with a backrest, whereas in the longer version, the two cushioned components are separated. Its generous volume is made lighter by the different finishes of its supporting components, while the down feather cushions grant maximum comfort. Elegant and casual at the same time, it changes its appearance whether it is covered with solid colur or mélange fabrics. Husk is not a place you sit on, rather you sit in. You are greeted by its embrace, never losing contact with what surrounds you.

RAY

Ray is modular sofa born of the precious convergence of proportions and volumes typical of Antonio Citterio. Far from any obvious attempt to be different, Ray is a modular system that starts with linear elements, chaise longues, terminal elements and an ottoman, which can be used to form all sorts of configurations - even corner and peninsula models. Ray takes certain characteristics from “Charles” (1997) - the strong points, linearity and simplicity - and reworks them with fine details and tailoring elements, in particular the blanket stitch in the same colour or a contrasting hue, that enhances the removable covers. A main feature is the die-cast U-shaped foot that, along with the seat cushions, contributes to creating an image of Ray as a low sofa - a particularly elegant piece with balanced forms.

BEND-SOFA

Patricia Urquiola came up with the name "Bend", also the English word for "curve", to underscore the particular movement of this product, the quality of which can be guaranteed only by an industrial process.Bend-Sofa is a modular sofa that looks like it was formed by an artist, but it was really created from a study of 3D models and digital research. Patricia Urquiola imagined this piece as follows: "a seat with a primary, monolithic and almost manually moulded shape, as though it had been created from a ductile material with gestures not unlike those of a sculptor." She called it Bend-Sofa because it effectively expresses the idea of movement obtained by alternating full and empty volumes, underscored by the contrasting stitching that creates another pattern on the irregular, curved surface.A product with a great personality that can be used to produce original and alternative seating solutions that are outside traditional canons. Freshness, colour, liveliness, composition freedom and soft lines all emerge from the communication of Bend-Sofa.

LE BAMBOLE '07

The starting point is a shopping bag containing an amorphous material that has a certain shape when it is placed on the ground, and then flattened. In a joint study between the designer and the company's internal R & D department Centro Ricerche & Sviluppo, the idea gradually moved closer to the shape of a bag. This is how Le Bambole was born between 1970 and 1972. The series * later became a symbol of the 1970s and won the Compasso d'Oro Award in 1979. Find a new look for the finished furniture: all the parts have the shape of a large soft bag. If Le Bambole is taken apart, we will get a single soft bag, because they are naturally "free" shapes, it is difficult to describe in the product drawings, but it is easy to observe and analyze. Inside are a "skeleton" or more accurately a vertical edge or elastic membrane that blends shapes and fabric together to find a balance between action and response. Le Bambole, Bellini said, "It's not made of fabric, but made of fabric." Le Bambole will never grow old. Without load-bearing structures, their natural shape and the combination of comfort, softness, and elasticity make them stand out. Their appearance conveys Le Bambole '07 through different versions of the armchair (Bambola), double sofa (Bibambola) and three-seat sofa (Tribambola) and ottoman. These products come with removable sleeves. B & B Italia launched Le Bambole in a way related to jeans, the contemporary fashion label. With the contributions of photographer Oliviero Toscani and model Donna Jordan, the company organized a highly creative, distinctive and slightly provocative launch event for the product, again breaking the industry's propaganda practices. In an advertisement shot by Oliviero Toscani, the naked Donna Jordan invites viewers to visit the product. The advertisement was immediately reviewed, and at the same time, a wave of publicity began to appear, which greatly promoted product sales.

MOON SYSTEM

This project, co-created with Iraqi architect Zaha Hadid, is a true "design manifesto." This sofa combines B & B Italia's typical experiments with Zaha Hadid's long-term research ** through curved geometry. The Moon System contains references to the same designer's futuristic sculptures and certain buildings. Its name is reminiscent of the combination of unusual shapes and the concept of a product system. In its more traditional version, the theme of the product has been severely challenged, creating a dynamic perspective dynamic: an independent whole "carved" from independent block materials, including a back, seat and armrest . Despite its exaggerated styling, the project was created for the home environment and the dimensions are carefully evaluated, in addition to carefully studying the range of fabrics with elastic and polyurethane-coated covers. They enhance the sculptural look of the product.

CHARLES

The name? Charles is a tribute to the design of the 1950s and 60s. The name refers obviously to Charles Eames, the American designer, architect and film director who always sustained that “The details are not the details. They make the design” They are actually elements that make design meaningful. This concept is enough to tell the story of Charles, B&B Italia's longest and best seller, and the design strength shows in the details: the upside-down L foot and the slender raised base both confer an image of lightness to the sofa.A leading piece in contemporary lifestyle, it became a reference model in the world of design. The light image accentuated by the essential design of the die-cast aluminium feet make Charles into a sofa with a decidedly contemporary look, a product of great formal elegance that goes well beyond the current times and fashions. The spatial concept behind the project by Antonio Citterio is innovative: a system that can be used to create new compositions - two or three seat sofas, sofas with a chaise longue addition and a corner sofa. The line also includes a broad selection of modular elements to satisfy any furnishing need, including the most personal desire for comfort.
